The Lewiston Choraleers is a volunteer community chorus in Western New York. This website exists to tell people who we are and when we are singing next, and it collects as little information as it can while doing that. This page explains what is collected, why, and what you can do about it.
Who we are
We are the Lewiston Choraleers, a community chorus founded in 2007 and based in Lewiston, New York. This policy covers our website at lewistonchoraleers.com. If you have a question about anything here, please reach us through our contact page and we will answer it.
What we collect
There are three ways information reaches us, and none of them involve buying data about you from anyone else.
When you write to us. Our contact form asks for your first name, your email address, an optional phone number, and your message. That is the whole form. What you send is emailed to us and stored in this website's database so we do not lose track of it.
When you agree to analytics. If you press Accept on the cookie notice, we load Google Analytics, which tells us how many people visited, which pages they read, roughly which city or region they were in, and what kind of device and browser they used. It does not tell us who you are, and we use it only to understand which parts of the site are worth keeping. If you press Reject, or simply ignore the notice, Google Analytics is never loaded and none of that is collected.
Automatically, for security. Like every website, our server keeps a log of requests it receives, including the IP address they came from, the page requested, and the time. Our security plugin also records failed login attempts, with the IP address, so that repeated attacks can be blocked. Both are used to keep the site running and safe, and nothing else.
Cookies and your consent
Nothing that tracks you is set before you say yes. When you first visit, the notice at the bottom of the screen asks whether you accept analytics cookies, and until you answer, analytics stays switched off. This is done with Google Consent Mode, which means the choice is applied before the analytics tag is allowed to load, not after.
- Your answer is remembered in your own browser's local storage, under the name lc_cookie_consent. It stays on your device and is never sent to us or to anyone else.
- If you accept, Google Analytics sets its own cookies (names beginning _ga), which measure return visits and expire after up to two years.
- If you reject, we also clear any analytics cookies that may already be on your device.
- To change your mind later, clear this site's data in your browser settings. The notice will appear again on your next visit and you can answer differently.
What we do not do
- We do not sell, rent, or trade your information. Not to anyone, ever.
- We run no advertising, no retargeting, and no social media tracking pixels.
- We host our own fonts and images rather than pulling them from an outside service, so simply reading a page does not announce your visit to a third party.
- We take no payments and ask for no financial information on this website.
- We do not create profiles of visitors or make automated decisions about anyone.
Who else sees it
Only the people and services that have to. Our web hosting provider stores the website and its database on our behalf. Google receives analytics data, but only from visitors who accepted. Beyond that, what you send us stays with the Choraleers, and our contact list is not shared with other organizations.
How long we keep it
Messages sent through the contact form are kept while they are still useful to us, and you may ask us to delete yours at any time. Security records are kept for six months and then discarded. Analytics data is held by Google under the retention period set in our account, and it is not tied to your name.
Your choices
You can refuse analytics and still use every part of this site. You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, and we will do so unless we are legally required to keep it. Depending on where you live, laws such as the GDPR in Europe or the CCPA in California may give you further rights, and we will honor a request from anyone who makes one, regardless of where they are.
Children
This website is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has sent us something through the contact form, tell us and we will delete it.
Links to other websites
Some pages link to places we do not run, such as our Facebook page or the venues where we perform. Once you follow a link, that site's own privacy policy applies, not this one.
Changes to this policy
If what we collect changes, we will update this page and change the date at the top. There is no mailing list for policy updates, so the date is the way to tell.
